Oskharra: Whispers of Azaloth
A downloadable game for Linux
Something ancient is peering at the world, and its regard is sinister.
Where it rests too long, the ground forgets it was ever ground. People call this black tide the Azoth—mostly because a simple name is easier to hold onto than the horror described in the original survey texts. It has no cult, no grand design, and no villainous agenda. It is simply unnatural.
Oskharra is a first-person RPG built in the classic mold: you are given a road, a name, and whatever equipment you can carry.
A world generated from scratch
Every playthrough builds a new world from a single seed. Coastlines, mountain ranges, river networks, and trade roads all form naturally around the terrain. You'll wander between walled cities lit by night, quiet roadside villages, and a long tail of forgotten places: wild camps, wayshrines, wrecks, active mines, and standing stones carved with forbidden script.

Five powers in motion
Five major factions control the settled lands, constantly shifting borders whether you intervene or not. Towns change hands, sieges resolve, and banners fall in real time.
You discover these changes the way anyone in the world would: tavern rumors, notices pinned to a board, refugees on the road, or a bare pole where a banner used to hang.
While you are the strongest single force on the board—your dedicated support can permanently tip the scales for a faction—the world will keep moving on its own if you ignore politics entirely.

Knowledge as a weapon
Dead languages aren't just lore; they're a core progression mechanic. Uncovered inscriptions remain fragmented until your linguistics, deciphering, and arcane history skills are high enough to fill in the blanks. Decoded texts reward you with actual game play advantages: cache coordinates, enemy weaknesses, or activation sequences for ancient machinery lingering in the dark.
Revisiting a stele after leveling your skills reveals entirely new layers of information. The text remains the same, but your understanding has grown.
An immersive, reactive world
A town's prosperity is visible on its shop shelves. A faction's control is reflected in guard counts and patrolling armor. The deeper you step off the beaten path, the more dangerous the wilderness becomes. Your journal tracks discoveries, encounters, and rumors naturally, recording information in the exact voice of the person who told you.
Key Features
- Skill-by-Use Progression: Natural skill leveling paired with faction guilds that grant rank for completed contracts.
- Seven Schools of Chant: Master Ember, Tide, Gale, Stone, Blight, Radiance, and Gloam through the Ember Circle.
- Tactical Magic: Chanting requires total commitment, leaving your guard open while casting. Includes utility chants like Bind and Slip to anchor and recall to specific locations.
- Diverse Combat & AI: Battle using melee, shields, bows, or face hostile wild chanters who can out-range your spells.
- Dynamic Economy & Crime: Trade, haggle, craft, brew, mine, or steal. Bounties are tracked per faction, meaning a target on your head in one realm won't follow you past the border.
- Procedural Delving: Explore ruins and caverns seeded logically based on regional history graphs.
- Travel & World Interaction: Pay for caravan passage, brave dynamic weather, rest in city plazas, and pick up almost any physical object in the world.
Early Access Plan and Notes
The core foundation is mostly implemented and playable—the world generator, the Azoth tide, five factions, guilds, basic magic, basic crafting, and the core game loop are all up and running. While you will likely encounter some bugs and rough edges at this stage, the underlying systems are in place, and we are continually working to polish, fix, and expand the experience.
Our focus during Early Access is building depth on top of this foundation: adding expanded guild quest lines, ranged and casting creature variants, deeper magic implementation and combat, and refining balance based directly on player input. We truly appreciate the community’s support and feedback as we shape the game together.
Expectation Setter: This game is mainly a sandbox RPG experience! There are quests, tasks, and a lot to explore, but the game's vision is set around exploration, improving your character through skills, gear, and magic. That can be done via dungeons and overworld activites! I am a sole developer, that is not good at art, but if I get enough support we can absolutely outsource some things to improve visual fidelity :) Regardless, thanks for your support.
